Frequently Asked Questions
What's the first step?
Please contact me to arrange an initial 30-minute meeting. During this meeting I would ask you to say a little more about what you are looking for support with, explain more about how I work and answer any questions you may have. Finding the right therapist for you is the most important first step. If I don't feel I would be suited to working with you for any reason, I will usually offer a referral to an alternative therapist.
How many sessions will I require?
Initially we would agree to 6 x weekly sessions. On the sixth session we would take some time to review our work so far and decide together what would support you further. In a few cases 6 sessions may be enough, although generally the minimum amount of time I work with clients is 12 sessions - and this would be what I consider more short-term, solution focused work. Often I work much longer term with clients and at more depth - some clients attend psychotherapy for several years and it becomes a more emergent process that uncovers the wholeness of experience. During an initial meeting we would take time to discuss the type of support you are looking for and what possible time frames would offer.
what happens on our first session?
During our first session we would read through and agree a contract - this sets out important information, such as confidentiality as well as practicals, so that you can have clear expectations and assurance of my professional standards. The remainder of our first session would involve me taking a 'case history' that enable you to tell me more about yourself, your history as well as your hopes and intentions of the therapeutic process.
WhAT's your approach?
My training in Core Process Psychotherapy (CPP) is an integrative, psychodynamic oriented psychotherapy. It includes aspects of body psychotherapy and transpersonal psychology and is underpinned by western developmental theories, as well as Buddhist psychology and awareness practices. I draw upon many other trainings, skills & tools I have developed and offer each individual the possibility to be met and supported in their own unique process of self-discovery. I attempt to meet each client where they are.
